Jane Lanett

Hey you, welcome.

Jane here. I'm a twenty-something year old with a love for books just as much as any of you who've made it here. I think I spend more time in the fictional world than I do in the real world. If I'm not reading, I'm mentally plotting my next story which keeps me grounded in the fictional realm. As much as I love it there, I constantly have to remind myself that it's not real. And then my heart breaks all over again.

My Story

Hi, I'm Jane Lanett and I'm a writer, singer/songwriter (I hope). The name 'Lanett' is a merge of my surname and my mother's maiden name as a way to honour both my parents.

I was born in Nigeria on 1st November into a Roman-Catholic family that I am blessed to have. I'm the third of three girls and my sisters bring the 'awe' in 'awesome'.

My parents have always been an inspiration to me because up to this day, they're still so in love. I heard their love story countless times growing up and it was one heck of a story - very unique and well, romantic.

It may come as a surprise, but growing up, books weren't really my thing. My passion for music was the catalyst and it began with writing songs about a fictional love story or heartbreak.

I began writing stories when I was eleven with Disney and Nickelodeon tv series as inspiration. And it wasn't until I was fourteen that I read my first novel; a Harlequin romance.

Fast forward to three years later, I was introduced to Wattpad where my journey as a writer began. Now, not only am I a Wattpad writer, I'm a Wattpad Creator and Ambassador.

My Works

My love for storytelling, I realise, started way before songwriting. I remember being a very imaginative eight-year-old. What I like to call the 'Jane phase' started. I would lay in bed at night and make up stories about prince charming and me, a princess, because why not?

The first four stories I ever wrote, were handwritten in old and empty company journals which belonged to my dad. My parents still keep these journals as a reminder of the 'Jane phase'.

In January 2016, I published my first story - The Beginning of The End - on Wattpad. This was the fifth book I had written by then but the first one to be published online. I was nervous and excited and had zero expectations.

Fast forward to January 2018, I was celebrating 1 Million views on my third Wattpad book - Her Adopted Baby's Daddy. And as you read this, it's pretty close to 9 Million views.

My journey on Wattpad has been absolutely surreal. From writing stories in the comfort of my room, to publishing my first story, and hitting that first million. It's been seven years since I joined Wattpad and I'm looking forward to bringing you all more stories on the platform.

I know how blessed I am to be able to do what I do. Yes, there was hard work involved and dedication. But God gave me this gift and it is by His power that I have the strength to do it all.

I cannot tell you where inspiration comes from, but I know that it is truly a gift to be able to see the world through a new lens and create something for people to find solace in.

I will admit that for a while I was swept up by what the world wanted that I forgot why I started writing in the first place. But after practising this form of art for a few years, I have discovered my voice.

I hope to find new ways with words that can shed light into your hearts and give you hope for a better tomorrow. The world can be a cruel place but it is your choice to go out there and show love and kindness even in your hard seasons.

Remember to always put God first in everything you do.

Love you muchly,
Jane.
